Edition 2 of 4

Beverly Pepper's Medea demonstrates the artist’s perfect command of her materials, in this case Corten steel, a material that she pioneered the use of in sculpture during the 1970's. For Pepper, great works of art never stand alone, but are always related to their environment. This sweeping, curling sculpture – whose lightness of design belies its physical weight – engages both with the ground and the sky – and in its setting at Roche, reflects the sweeping countryside and ancient trees.

Pepper’s contribution to twentieth Century sculpture is significant. Her work has been included in institutional shows around the world; Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, USA (2018 & 2012); Chatsworth, Derbyshire, UK (2008); and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA (1991). Public installations across Asia, Europe and the USA include the Beverly Pepper Sculpture Park, Todi, Italy.
