Beverly Pepper (1922 - 2020) is known for her experimentation of abstraction in sculpture and for utilising a wide variety of industrial materials such as cast iron, steel, stainless steel and bronze. These materials, rendered into abstract forms and shapes, are often incorporated into the landscape or outdoor, public spaces either as freestanding sculptures or larger, more expansive installations.

There is a profound sense of spatial awareness that characterises all of Pepper's works, thanks to the fact that they are almost exclusively situated outside and in public environments. Indeed, this is how they have been conceived from the very beginning. As a result, each work takes into careful consideration how the monumentality or expansiveness of the forms might interact with the individual viewer. Pepper's works therefore express themselves simultaneously as imposing, impactful but also inviting and immersive.

Beverly Pepper's work has been included in institutional shows around the world, including at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, USA (2018 & 2012), Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, USA (2011), Chatsworth, Derbyshire, UK (2008), the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA (1991), Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, USA (1978), San Francisco Museum of Art, San Francisco, USA (1976) and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA (1969).

Public collections that hold Pepper's work include Albertina Museum, Vienna, Austria; Florence Museum of Art, Florence, Italy; Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Florence, Italy; Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome, Italy; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France; Jerusalem Foundation, Jerusalem, Israel; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois, USA; Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas, USA: Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, USA; Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York, USA; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York, USA; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, USA.
